Winifred Wilhelmina (Ward) Sisco was born on April 29, 1930, to the late Rev. Gordon and Frederica (Lynch) Ward. She was predeceased by her siblings and sisters-in-law, Clara, Allan, Rev. Clayton (Phebe) and Rev. Aiden (Gwendolyn), Ella and William (Dolores) Ward and her daughter, Gloria Sisco.

“Winnie,” as she was affectionally called, was educated in the Cambridge Public School System. She met and married an Air Force soldier Henry Sisco, Sr. in August of 1950. From that union four children were born, Henry Jr., Gloria, Maurice, and Craig. Then she met Mr. Julian Bennett and had a daughter Sonya Sisco, also known as Precious or “Sonie”.

Winnie was a hard worker. She worked as a Nurse’s Assistant at Cambridge Health Alliance in her early years on the night shift (11:00pm -7:00am) so she could be there for her children in the daytime. She was employed by a medical clinic in Brookline as a Switchboard Operator. She was hired by Northeast Savings Bank as a Receptionist. Then, she had a second job cleaning fancy offices downtown (6:00pm – 10:00pm). In 1983, she landed her dream job, working at the Charles Hotel as a PBX Operator. You can always tell when Winnie was there, she would answer the phone in her sexy voice. “Good evening, this is the Charles Hotel, how may I help you?” She was blessed to retire after 27 years of loyal and faithful service.

Winnie loved shopping for jewelry and looking at diamond rings, gold necklaces, earrings, and other pieces. She loved to travel. Her favorite places were Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and Montreal, Canada. She enjoyed traveling to different states for family celebrations. Winnie’s last trip was in 2010 when she celebrated her 80th birthday in Aruba with Sonya. We had a blast!

Winnie loved music, especially her jazz! She loved to dance at the Elks Club. She would go to the Regatta Bar and listen to Ruth Brown and Scullers at the Doubletree Hotel to enjoy various artist. A treasured part of her daily routine was drinking Sprite and having a cup of coffee with ice cream and cake at 10:00 each night.

Winnie attended services at the Christian Mission Holiness Church and Abundant Life Church.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her sons, Henry, Jr., Maurice and Craig, her daughter, Sonya. Her grandchildren, Sharna Edey-Nurse (Franklin), Jason Sisco and one great-grandchild, Jaiden Edey-Nurse and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
