In Loving Memory of
Santiago Rodríguez Hernández
Santiago Rodríguez Hernández, affectionately known as “Shanty” to his family and friends, passed away on November 3, 2025, in Boston, Massachusetts, surrounded by those who loved him most. He was 81 years old.
Born on April 14, 1944, in San Vicente, El Salvador, Santiago lived a full and joyous life defined by kindness, curiosity, and a gentle spirit. A calm, tranquil soul, he carried peace wherever he went. His love of adventure took him around the world—he visited every corner of the earth—but his heart always led him back home to El Salvador.
Santiago found his greatest happiness in the quiet rhythm of his days in Apaneca, where mornings began with the sun rising over the mountains, a cup of coffee shared with his neighbors, and time spent tending to his beloved garden. He delighted in welcoming family and friends to his cabin, eager to show them the beauty of his country and the serenity he cherished.
He shared his later years with his devoted wife, Elsie, and was the proud father of Dustin, Jessica, Alicia, and James. He was a grandfather to Aaron, Kevin, and Mia, and is also survived by his caring sisters Raquel, Elida Noemy, and Lidia. His presence was a gift to all who knew him—steady, kind, and full of grace.
We say goodbye knowing that Santiago was a man of deep faith, guided by love and gratitude. His family takes comfort in knowing he has been received into the Kingdom of Heaven with open arms.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by funeral services at J.A. Spears Funeral Home, 124 Western Ave, Cambridge, MA 02139.
