Ruthie Mae Thompson was born Monday, September 3, 1943 in Bassfield, Mississippi. She was called away to her final rest on Monday, December 16, 2024.
She was the first of nine children born to Lela Bell Anderson. Her name means, “compassionate friend” and anyone who knew her, will confirm that she represented that title exceptionally well.
In the late 1950’s she migrated from Mississippi to Massachusetts along with her mother and three siblings, seeking a better quality of life. The family settled in at Summer Circle and Ruthie was enrolled at the Lynn Shoemaking School for a short period.
Ruthie married John W. Thompson at the tender age of 18. She and Jr. were the parents of four children. They lived on Bedford Street until Ruthie moved on to Green Street.
When she moved there in the late 1970’s, she was the core of a group of families, led mostly by women, who supported each other through the challenges of life. She was ‘another mother’ to children without number on Green Street where she later became the matriarch. She was known for her never-ending kindness and compassion. Ruthie lived on Green Street for over 50 years.
She is preceded by her parents Willie Stubbs and Lela Bell Anderson, as well as her sister, Linda Anderson. She left much love behind for her children: John Thompson, Zina Thompson, Lisa Fortes and Aileen Allen. She was grandmother to Jaman Greene, Sharyi Thompson, Anthony Thompson, Desmond Fortes, Scott Fortes, David Allen, Alton Allen and Evan Allen. She was great-grandmother to 26 children, and the sister of Viola Eastling, Joe Stubbs, Charlie Anderson, Curtis Anderson, Lois Anderson, Debbie Wonokay and Carol Fairweather. She was Godmother to Jason Chiappini and Diedre Roper. She was aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, bonus mother and friend to a multitude.
