Roger Stephen Lewis, Jr. age 84, husband of Dolores Lewis, passed away peacefully on Friday February 26, 2021 at his home in Ashland, MA. Born Sept 5, 1936, he was the son of the late Emily “Honey” and the late Roger S. Lewis, Sr. and brother of the late Marcia (Lewis) Crutcher. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Dolores, who cared for him for the last several years, his children Kim Lewis-Provine of Chicago, IL, Roger (Tres) Lewis III of Reading, MA, as well as his step-children Leslie Lewis of Newton, MA and Scott Lewis of New Bedford, MA, his niece Gail Erickson, nephew Carl Erickson, who was like a son to him, his great-nephew Kyle Erickson, and grandchildren (Marquis, Kendal, Brooke, Paige, Skye, Cameron, Autumn, Farrah, Kingston) and great-grandchildren (Cole, Oaklyn, Finn, Myles, Quinn).

Roger grew up in Cambridge, MA where he attended Rindge Technical High School. New Bedford, MA was his home for many years where he raised his family and made many great friendships. During his 20 year employment at Polaroid, Roger became their first black licensed carpenter. His sense of adventure took him to explore the open seas as an Ordinary Seamen for Exxon. Roger was an incredibly talented artist. He studied sculpture at Southeastern Massachusetts University and the Rhode Island School of Design, where he also studied silversmithing. Roger shared his talents by teaching sculpture to disadvantaged youth at Friends Academy in Dartmouth, MA. Roger opened and curated his own art gallery, The Third World Gallery, New Bedford, MA. Displaying many of his own pieces, along with providing a venue for other local artists to share their work.

“Rog” as many called him, was an adventurer, talented sculptor, carpenter and could fix anything you put in front of him. When he wasn’t in his workshop, he was sailing on one of his sailboats, skiing down a mountain, or riding his trike. Rog loved the water, and you could often find him swimming in the ocean off the coasts/beaches of New Bedford, Martha’s Vineyard or Florida.

Rog will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.

A visitation will be held for family and friends on Saturday, March 6th from 11:00 - 12:00 at A J Spears Funeral Home at 124 Western Ave in Cambridge, MA.
