RODGER B. JOHNSON‘S
Rodger Bruce Johnson, a cherished and caring individual, passed away on October 25,
2024. Rodger, the family’s baby, was born on October 30, 1948, at the Cahill House in
Cambridge, Massachusetts, to parents Ruth Anita Clarke Johnson and James George
Johnson. Rodger was extraordinarily generous and lived a life filled with tremendous
passion and service toward others.
Rodger attended Rindge Technical High School and, after graduation, was drafted by
the U.S. Army and bravely served in the Vietnam War from 1967-1970. After
returning from the war, Rodger attended Boston State College and earned a Bachelor’s
degree.
Rodger had an award-winning 35-year career as a Firefighter with the Cambridge Fire
Department. Concurrent to his fire fighting career, Rodger also worked as a Milieu Counselor at Cambridge Health Alliance for 15 years administering to patients with emotional and psychological issues. Careers that exemplify Rodger’s caring nature and dedication to serving others.
Rodger is remembered for his humorous personality and deep love for friends and
family. He had a zest for adventure and loved bird watching, deep sea fishing, being
outdoors with nature, cooking, and spending quality time with his partner, Donna, family,
and friends. He was indeed one of a kind, and he had very personalized and
unconventional ways of expressing his love for his family. He lived life his way! He was
an incredible force, bringing us laughter and great memories that we will hold close to
our hearts forever.
Rodger is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and James Johnson, his sister,
Roberta Campbell, and his brother, Robert Johnson. He is survived by his beloved and
devoted Partner, Donna Stoutley; siblings Paula Lewis and Barbara Johnson, Sister in Law
Shirley Johnson; nephew Mark Johnson; nieces Jill Armstrong, Heather Johnson, Traci
Lewis, and Kimberly Johnson; and a host of great nieces and nephews, extended
family, and countless friends whose lives were greatly enriched by his presence.
Rodger’s departure leaves an unfillable void in our lives, yet we find comfort in the
memories and everlasting love we share. Beloved Rodger, you are missed by all of
us.
