Richard Woodson Obituary

Richard Lee Woodson, fondly known as “Dickey,” was born on July 21, 1936, in Everett, Massachusetts to the late Celia (Huff) Woodson and Cyril T. Dujon. Richard departed this life peacefully on March 3, 2026.

Richard was a graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School, Boston MA. At 23 years old, Richard enlisted in the United State Army and was deployed to Mannheim, Germany. He served as a sharpshooter in the Military Police force until 1961. He continued his commitment to the United States Army National Guard Reserve until 1965 when he was honorably discharged.

After returning to the United States, Richard worked as a male Nurse at Bell Nursing Home, in Boston, Massachusetts. Later, he met and married Andrea Dias and from that union two of his three daughters—Kim and Tina—were born. In 1972, his youngest daughter, Dawna, was born and at 15 years old came to live with him.

Richard was a devoted son, brother, uncle, and a remarkable father. He was, by all accounts, a “girl Dad”: he loved his girls with all his heart. He was a proud and doting grandfather and great-grandfather. “What a Joy!” was his way of affectionately expressing his feelings when he spent time with his grands and great-grands.

As a very handsome single father, Richard made every provision to provide a safe, happy, loving environment for Kim and Tina. He made sure that they were surrounded by loving women who were good examples of resilience, authenticity, and self-confidence. He was a kind, respectful, encouraging, and selfless man. He modeled a standard by which his nephews and the young men in his neighborhood could emulate. Those same standards also stood out for the women in his family and the neighborhood as qualities to look for in a partner.

For several years, Richard lived in Fairburn, Georgia, where he gave his life to the Lord and served as a Deacon at Temple of Prayer, United Church of God in Christ. In 2010, Richard relocated back to Boston where he peacefully lived out his remaining years until March 3, 2026, when he was called home to be with his Lord.

Richard was predeceased by his daughter, Dawna Ramsure-Carter, but the legacy of his life lives on in his daughters: Kim Woodson-Ellcock (Kim Ronald Ellcock), Tina Woodson, and his bonus daughter, Lisa Dias; his grandchildren: Kimberly Figueroa (Erik Figueroa), Sean Ramsure, Brandyn Sparks, Tyjahe Carter, Anthony Ellcock; his great-grandchildren: Kimora, Kimron, Kimai, Kimia; his godchildren: Renee Hector, Kevin Weatherspoon, Aman Evans (honorary godchild); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
