Richard Lyons Obituary

Richard L. Lyons II (“Ricky”), 66, of Saugus, passed away on April 25, 2026, likely because he finally ran out of sarcastic comments, or perhaps because heaven needed someone to tell them how to do things “the right way.”

A proud and dedicated plumber for many years, Ricky was a longtime member of the U.A. Plumbers & Gasfitters Local 12 Boston Union, where he built not only a career but a reputation for hard work, skill, and never holding back his opinion.

Born with a smart remark ready for any situation, Ricky never sugarcoated the truth. He was tough, stubborn, and could argue his point until you were either laughing too hard to care or simply gave in out of exhaustion. Beneath that rough exterior, however, was a heart of gold whether he wanted you to notice it or not.

While he liked to play the tough guy, anyone who knew Ricky understood he was the first to show up when you needed help (and with his driving skills, we all know it was quickly), a shoulder to lean on, or something fixed that no one else could manage. He was incredibly generous with his time and energy, always there when it mattered most.

Ricky is survived by his loving wife, Maria Lyons; his son, Eric Lyons, and daughter-in-law Lena; and his siblings, Christine Woodworth and her husband Ronald, Timothy Lyons, Patrick Lyons, Kenny Lyons, Susan (Lyons) Clauson, and Lisa (Lyons) Jones. He will also be deeply missed by his godchildren, nieces and nephews—who affectionately knew him as “The Boss”—as well as many cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

He also leaves behind his loyal travel companion, Cruella, his loving but moody cat, who—like the rest of us—is still trying to figure out how to navigate life without his relentless (and loving) jabs.

Ricky was predeceased by his father, Richard L. Lyons; his mother, Patricia A. Winchester (Dungan); and his stepfather, Arnold (“Butch”) Winchester.

Calling hours will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at A.J. Spears Funeral Home, 124 Western Avenue, Cambridge. A funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2026, followed by a celebration of his life at The Stockyard, 135 Market Street, Brighton, where all are encouraged to share their favorite smart-aleck memory of him.

Rest easy, Ricky. You will be loved and missed more than you could ever imagine.
