Rev. George Windrey Battle, 96, of Roanoke, TX passed away peacefully April 28, 2020, at home surrounded by his beloved wife Louise and daughter Linda.
He was born on September 15, 1923 in Boston, MA to the late Andrew & Letitia Battle.
He graduated from, Cambridge High and Latin. Served stateside in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Wilberforce University in Ohio, America’s first private HBCU, founded in 1856. George earned a Master of Education from Boston State College and a Master of Religious Education Degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary on May 27, 1988. He was an ordained Minister of the Gospel. He served as an Associate Minister at Union Baptist Church in Cambridge, MA, and the Assistant Pastor at Christ Temple Church in Roxbury, MA.
He loved Jesus, sharing and preaching the Gospel of Christ. He enjoyed horseback riding, ice skating, swimming, shoveling snow; which he did well into his 70s (a true New Englander), and telling stories. His passion was sharing the Gospel. He published a book called Battlefields in The World and in Christendom.
Predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Edmonds, and his granddaughter Alexandria Loutrice Winbush. George, leaves us physically, but his vigorous love of Christ, the Gospel, and his loving spirit will forever be cherished by: his loving wife, Louise D Battle; son, Louis Battle (Catrina); daughter Linda Battle; four grandchildren, James “Alex” Winbush, Sydney Battle, Courtney Battle, Avery Battle; cousins, James Banks, Herman Banks, Cordelia Banks, Mildred McKenzie; and a host of cousins, friends and loved ones.
Funeral services were facilitated by Bethesda Memorial Funeral Directors and Crematory Services, in DeSoto, TX on May 9, 2020
Interment will be facilitated by AJ Spears of Cambridge, MA,
