Raymond C. Avant of Cambridge, MA, passed away peacefully October 25, 2025. He was surrounded by his four (4) siblings, his twin sister Roslyn, Deborah, Charlotte and James. He was born on October 10th in New York City and was raised in Cambridge. He was known as a quiet, soft spoken person who never raised his voice, but when he was upset he would let you know in a soft, calming manner. Raymond was a perfectionist in everything he set out to do.
He attended Longfellow Grammar school, Cambridge High and Latin School and graduated from Fisher Jr College with an Associate Degree in Accounting.
Raymond worked in finance in the accounts payable department and he retired after five years from
working at the United States Post Office in the Building Management department.
Raymond loved singing. He and his friends started the singing group called the Delvenaires in the late 70’s. His music was rhythm and blues and soft soul music. He also enjoyed playing chess and buying scratch tickets and one time he won $1000 and took a picture of his winning ticket. He did not play anymore after that. He was the Master Griller at all of the Avant cookouts and his specialty was mac and cheese with tomatoes and everyone except his twin sister loved. Also, Raymond participated in the Men’s’ Cookery hosted by Massachusetts Avenue Baptist Church and volunteered for several years at the Cambridge Jazz Festival.
He is survived by his nieces -Nikisha Glasgow, Shanika Boyd, nephews Michael Avant McKinley, James Boyd, granddaughter, Kyla Crucetta, grand nieces and nephews, Nyzharee and Kallahn Winbush, Jourdan Headley Avant-McKinley, Kaiyhon and Nyla Rentas, Exzavier Elias Jenty and a host of family members in New York City, Houston,Texas and Myrtle Beach SC
