Marie Gelin Obituary

Marie Yolette Gelin (née Lherisson), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025, in Medford, Massachusetts, at the age of 65.

Born on January 8, 1960, in Jacmel, Haiti, Yolette was the cherished daughter of the late Gerald Lherisson and Yvette Lherisson. From an early age, she carried a nurturing spirit and a heart full of compassion—gifts that guided her throughout a life devoted to service. As a dedicated nurse at both Park Avenue Nursing Home and Lexington Health Care, Yolette treated every patient with dignity, kindness, and unwavering care.

Her greatest devotion, however, was to her family and her faith. A proud and prayerful member of Peniel Seventh-day Adventist Church, she served faithfully as a deaconess—always ready to help, uplift, and pray for others. She gave generously, loved deeply, and believed in showing up for the people she loved.

Yolette also embraced life’s simple joys. With a camera or phone always in hand, she delighted in capturing memories—every smile, every outfit, every family moment. She had a gift for making people feel seen and cherished, whether through a check-in call, a warm hug, or a heartfelt conversation.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Sylvain Gelin; her loving children: Sylvainson Gelin and his partner Katana Cole, Daniel Gelin and his partner Sharee Pettiford, Richie Gelin and his wife Jennifer Gelin, and Jessica Prude and her husband Jaquan Prude. Her five cherished grandchildren—Jordan Prude, Jolie Prude, Zara Gelin, Zander Gelin, and Jayla Prude—were the lights of her life.

She also leaves behind her sister, Nyrva Louis-Jean, and her husband Dickson Louis-Jean; her brother, Joel Lherisson; and was preceded in death by her beloved younger brother, Patrick Lherisson.

She will also be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews, including her goddaughter Malihka Louis-Jean, Ressiah Louis-Jean, Jaelle Lherisson, Mireille Rigaud, Laury Paul, Dickson Louis-Jean Jr., and Patrick Lherisson Jr.

Yolette’s legacy of love, strength, and grace lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her presence, wisdom, and radiant spirit will be missed beyond measure.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 23rd, 2025, at Stoneham Memorial Seventh-Day Adventist Church, located at 29 Maple Street, Stoneham, MA 02180. Viewing begins at 9:00 AM, followed by the service.

Burial will take place immediately afterward at Oak Grove Cemetery, 230 Playstead Rd, Medford, MA 02155.

Following the burial, the family warmly invites guests to a reception at American Legion Post 45, 321 Winthrop St, Medford, MA 02155, to share memories, offer condolences, and celebrate Yolette’s remarkable life.

Floral arrangements may be sent through Coady Florist, 1540 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, MA 02139 | (617) 876-1000.

We invite family and friends to join us in honoring her life, remembering her joy, and celebrating the light she brought into this world.
