Lucinda Kennedy -Tate Obituary

LUCINDA ILENE KENNEDY-TATE was born on January 9, 1929 in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Timothy and Adelaide Braithwaite. She graduated from Cambridge High and Latin School and later went on to study at the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston, MA.

On June 23, 1951, Lucinda married Moses Nathaniel Kennedy and enjoyed many years of happiness. From this union they had a daughter, Jane Ann Kennedy. Throughout the years, they traveled and entertained. They found much joy working side by side and devoting their time to the Sunday School students of Union Baptist Church of Cambridge until his untimely death in 1971. Many years later, Lucinda remarried to Clarence Robert Tate, who passed after a long illness. They enjoyed traveling and social functions. They enjoyed a loving and devoted union.

Lucinda worked for the Raytheon Corporation and then moved on to Polaroid where she remained for many years as a Financial Specialist in the finance department. She was blessed to retire from Polaroid early, at the age of 55. She then attended the Lee Academy and earned her real estate license. Lucinda was also a certified home health care worker. She enjoyed working with and helping people. Lucinda loved being retired. Laughingly, she would joke that if the people were not nice, she could just quit. The Foster Grandparent program was another interest she enjoyed, as she loved children. Last, but not least, Lucinda used to man the front desk at St Paul AME Christian Life Center of Cambridge, MA. She had a chance to meet many people and children. This was her last job and she loved it.

Lucinda loved life and lived it to the fullest. She had a beautiful smile that lit up a room and she epitomized the meaning of grace and dignity. She was a joyful presence with her colorful clothes and creative fashion choices. Lucinda had a shoe collection rivaled only by Imelda Marcos’s.

Lucinda had a special crew of ladies and they enjoyed going to dinner, plays, and museums. She loved her friends and family and filled her home with warmth and kindness. For OVER 50 YEARS Lucinda was known for her legendary Annual Christmas Dinner. The menu choices got larger every year, as did the number of guests that appeared. Not only did they come from different states, but they also came from different countries. Lucinda welcomed anyone who did not have a place to go on Christmas Day.

Lucinda Kennedy-Tate was preceded in death by her father Timothy Braithwaite, mother Adelaide Braithwaite, husbands Moses Nathaniel Kennedy and Robert Clarence Tate, and brothers Hilton, Cecil, and Elberton Braithwaite. She is survived by her daughter Jane Kennedy, and grandsons Maxwell Nathaniel Kennedy-Reid and Austin Kennedy Reid, as well as a host of loving nieces and nephews, family, and friends.
