Louis Genty Obituary

Louis Omane Genty  was born on April 10th, 1932, in Duclaire, Haiti, as the fourth of eleven children born to Victoria (nee Lima) and Atanas Jeanty.

At the age of 9, he along with the rest of his family moved to a small but beautiful town in the Haitian country(side). This small but beautiful place, would be a place that he came to love, a place where he came to raise a family of his own, and the place where he was to discover one of his many passions in life.

Arniquet, Haiti.

In Arniquet, at the young age of 12, Louis (Maques) picked up his first pair of scissors...and the rest is history. He began by cutting the hair of his siblings and then his friends. Very soon he graduated from doing the hair of school yard friends and family, to doing that of strangers who would become faithful clientele. He rose to become one of the premier barbers of the entire town. In the years to follow, he would have his first son, his first daughter, marry, and then 10 other children would follow.

In 1980, he left his beloved Haiti, and immigrated to the United States.

Though new to the country, the culture, and the language, in 1986, he opened what would be the first Haitian Barber Shop in Cambridge, Louis & Sons on Western Ave, Cambridge. As he became known the region over for his barbering skills and business acumen, he consistently maintained a solid sense of discipline and an unalterable vision of where wanted his family to be. After working many years and saving diligently, he was able to purchase his first home in Cambridge and bring his children to the US, two of the first steps in actualizing his dream.

In the end, he lived an accomplished life and through his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and beyond, his legacy goes on.
