Leon N. Brathwaite
WOBURN, MA – Leon N. Brathwaite, a dedicated public servant, veteran, and beloved
family man, passed away in Woburn, MA on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
Raised in Cambridge, MA Leon was the son of the late Leon A. Brathwaite and Evelyn
(Joseph) Brathwaite. He was a proud graduate of Rindge Technical School before
answering the call to serve his country in the United States Army. Following his military
service, Leon embarked on a distinguished career in law enforcement, serving as a
member of the Harvard University Police Department for over 30 years. His decades of
commitment to the safety and well-being of the university community left a lasting
impact on colleagues and students alike.
Leon was the devoted father of Sonia Brathwaite and her partner, Mark, and was
predeceased by his cherished son, Leon Philip Addison Brathwaite. He was the brother
of Aaron Brathwaite, Leon Arthur Brathwaite II and his wife Brenda, and David A.
Brathwaite of Barbados. He also leaves behind his close friend, Tangi Clarke, along
with a host of relatives and friends who will miss his presence dearly.
Leon’s life was defined by his loyalty—to his family, his country, and his community. His
legacy of service and his kind spirit will be remembered by all who knew him.
