Kathleen Mitchell born May 10, 1947 of Milton formaly from Cambridge Ma, passed away peacefully in her home March 4th, 2023. Kathy moved to Boston at the age of 18 from New Hyde Park, NY. In her early 20's she married and had her daughter Alexandra {Lexly} Mitchell in 1969. She relocated to East Boston when Lexly was a baby and continued her education in fashion design. After a seasonal job with SCEOC with the city of Cambridge she was hired full time and moved to Cambridge. Cambridge became her home for over 30 plus years. She worked her way up and became the Director of Fuel Assistance/Summer Food Program. While in this position she helped and cared for every person she came in contact with. She is known for her compassion and equality. She would fight for you with no questions asked. While still overseeing the Fuel Assistant program and Summer food program she then moved up to Personnel Administrator where again she would help and go the extra mile for anyone. She loved her job and she loved the people she worked with. Kathy loved to travel. Jamaica was the one place she continued to visit yearly. She then started taking Lexly and then her grandson Michael. It became a family vacation every year. She traveled frequently with her best friend Louise as well. Kathy and Lexly purchased a home together 18 years ago in the town of Milton. They wanted a home for her grandson and made that happen. Always living in the city having a home with a garden became one of her passions. If you wanted to find her on a day off that is where she would be. Pruning and planting became a new hobby for her which she enjoyed thoroughly. Her garden's front and back are just beautiful. When it came time to retire she struggled with the thought of not being around her work family anymore. It took a little time to adjust to not being at the office. However, she gave the City of Cambridge 35 years of service and left with pride knowing she made a difference in someone's life one way or another. She was loved by many. She spent the last couple of years taking care of her garden and always taking care of Lexly and little Michael. Her grandson was her world. Kathy was predeceased by her parents James and Catherine Dwyer. She is survived by her daughter Alexandra {Lexly} Mitchell, her grandson Michael B. Terry, son in law Michael I. Terry, her sister and brother in law Patricia and Chris Christiansen along with her neice Lauren DaSilva and nephew Michael Christiansen.
