Joseph Green Obituary

Joseph Richard Green was born on July 1, 1935 in Cambridge, MA to the late Violet (Blackman) and Leslie Green.  He was the youngest of 7 children born from their union.

Joseph (Joe) grew up in Cambridge and graduated in 1949 from Houghton Elementary School, and Rindge Technical School in 1953.  Upon graduating from high school, Joe enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served his country.  In 1964 Joe married the late Erline L. Parris, and from this union one son (deceased), and one daughter was born.  In 1970 Joe married Silvia C. Brewster, and from this union, two sons were born.

Joe and his siblings attended the Apostolic Pentecostal Church (now the Abundant Life Church), and it was there that he gave his life to the Lord.  Joe served in the church in many capacities with his whole heart.  He was a Sunday school teacher, youth department president, and deacon.  He also was active in the many street meetings held in the area.  Joe attended the Bethel Bible Institute and was ordained as an Evangelist in 1977.

After moving from Cambridge to Brockton, Joe and his wife joined Immanuel Baptist Church in Brockton, MA where he continued to serve.  He was Lead Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, choir member, member of the tract ministry, and was involved in the Prison ministry.  Joe continued to expand his biblical education by completing courses with Bob Jones University Institute of Biblical Education.

Joe worked for many years at Acoustic Research, Raytheon, and the US Post Office.  Upon his retirement, Joe attended Cambridge School of Culinary Arts and completed the Professional Chef Program.    He used his skills by working part time at Whole Foods in Wellesley and working at the Boston International Seafood Show at the World Trade Center each year.    Joe loved music, especially classical and music from his favorite artist the late George Beverly Shea.  Joe sang in church choirs, sang numerous solos for many occasions (weddings, funerals, services), and had season passes to Symphony Hall where he would attend countless concerts through the years.

His unselfish, humble, honorable, and God-fearing spirit will be so greatly missed by all who knew him.

Joe was predeceased by his parents; sisters: Mabel Levarity, Eleanor (Cleland) Haywood, Silvia (Howard) Jones, Violet Jackson; Brothers: Benjamin Green, Rev. Edward Green; grandson: Timothy Michael Adams

Joe leaves to mourn his passing, his wife; Silvia, daughter; Susan Adams, three sons; Philip, Jeffrey, David Green; one son- in- law, Timothy; one daughter -in- law, Tracey; twelve grandchildren; one great granddaughter, two great grandsons, one godson; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, church family, and friends.
