Joseph Arthur Davis was born in Boston, Massachusetts to Mary Robinson of Nova Scotia, Canada, and Joseph Arthur Davis of Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was the oldest of 6 children, all of them boys. Joseph was always curious and inquisitive about the world around him, making him a very good student in school. After graduating from high school, Joseph joined the Merchant Marines in the 1940’s to support the military during World War 2.
He met the love of his life, Ella Ruth Spencer, in 1958. Because of his strong character, and love of family, he accepted her children as his own. They began their love story that lasted for over 5 decades, and were truly married “until death do us part”.
Joseph enjoyed frequent trips with his wife Ella to Atlantic City, and then later, Foxwoods. He continued to keep his mind sharp by watching his favorite television shows, “WHEEL OF FORTUNE” and “JEOPARDY!”. He also liked the challenge of crossword puzzles. Well into his senior years, he continued to take daily walks and use his exercise bike, keeping his mind, and body, in shape.
He was always there to give advice or answer a question. Whatever you needed, if he had it...it was yours.
Joseph passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 6, 2021 while surrounded by loved ones.
Joseph leaves behind to cherish his memory, his brothers Teddy Davis and Monte Davis, daughters Ronda Holder and Joella Spencer, and bonus children Donna Harris, Ella Spencer, and William Spencer. He also leaves many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joseph joins in heaven his beloved wife Ella Ruth Davis, his parents, Mary Robinson and Joseph Arthur Davis, his brothers Albert Davis, Robert Davis, and Eugene Davis, and his bonus children Lawrence Spencer, Gerald Spencer, and Ronald Spencer.
