OBITUARY
HECTOR L. CABRERA CALZADA
Hector Cabrera-Calzada was born in Puerto Rico to Carmen and Hector. He was the youngest of three siblings—Samuel and Merari, who shared a deep bond with him. Luisito (mosan), as he was lovingly called by his family, was a bright light in our lives. In 1988, he moved to Cambridge, MA, where he was raised by his devoted grandparents after the passing of his mother.
He was a very talented, hard worker, as he worked for several years off and on doing landscaping, carpentry, and painting for Michelle’s uncle who Hector also considered him an uncle, however, his real passion was for culinary arts, which led him to Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts Institute where he excelled in all facets of fine cuisine.
His love for great tasting food and presentation led him to be considered as a well respected chef at top tier restaurants like Legal Seafoods and the MIT Hotel. He was then promoted to head chef at the Intermission Tavern, Menotomy Bar & Grill and lastly, Shays Pub, a Harvard Square institution.
Whether it was his love for basketball or his Boston’s caps, his selflessness, or his thoughtful nature, “Hec” had a way of making everyone feel special. A loyal friend, and soul who carried warmth wherever he went, he touched countless lives and his love and light will forever remain. A devoted father, his children were the center of his world, his greatest joy, and his deepest pride.
He leaves to mourn his loss his children, siblings, the Cabrera and Calzada family, the Dottin Family, his best friend Jakeem Gonsalves, and a host of other friends and relatives. Through life’s challenges, Luisito remained a man of kindness, strength, and unwavering love. The family wishes to extend its sincerest thanks to you all for your undying love and support during this difficult and trying time.
