Frederick Berry Jr Obituary

Frederick Lawrence Berry Jr. was born on August 4, 1946, in Cambridge MA., to Helen & Frederick L. Berry Sr. He attended Houghton Grammar School and then graduated from Cambridge Rindge & Latin, where he excelled in track, winning many awards.

Upon graduating, Fred started work at Krohn-Hite. He then went on to work at Honeywell Bull, where he was a night manager for many years. After getting laid-off from Honeywell in his 50’s, he reinvented himself by attending Bunker Hill Community College. He earned his Associates in phlebotomy with high honors and was employed at Dana Farber for over a decade before retiring,

Fred was a family man, leaving his wife & children with many fond memories. Sean remembers the earlier years, when Dad would take his children to the drive-in with a big bag of popcorn that he popped himself. He also enjoyed taking Stephen to the Boston Shoot Outs, wrestling & Celtics games, at the Boston Garden. Dana Ellis, his Godson, was included on many of these outings. Fred was Stephanie’s hero. She was Daddy’s girl who decided, at the age of 5, that she wanted to find a husband to treasure her the way her Daddy loved Mommy. Fred cherished his beloved Karen. Together, they made a stunning couple who delighted in date night. Out on the town, they went to night clubs, Scullers for jazz shows, to the movies & enjoyed romantic dinners. For recreation, Fred (also known as “Ricky” or “Dex”) loved to fish, listen to music blaring from his headphones, playing backgammon, and to watch NBA Playoff Finals & boxing with his cousin, Daniel & friends “Feet”, Val & Richie who were always welcomed, at the house. He also enjoyed traveling, visiting family near and far - especially his Godmother, Sweets, in Worcester, MA, and sisters, Sheila and Yvonne, in Richmond, VA. As a family man, Fred took pleasure in lavishing affection on his grandchildren & great granddaughters. He also welcomed his children’s spouses & friends into the family with an open heart and provided a loving family environment to all who knew him.

Fred was preceded, in death by Grandma Sophie Allison, his father Frederick L. Berry Sr., his mother Helen Berry, Godmother Yvonne (“Sweets”) Bradley, mother-in-law Ruth E. (“Nani”) Williams, his brother-in-law Phillip (“Moon”) Larkins Sr., his best friend Duncan O. Elder and great granddaughter Seantae M. Williams.

His memory will be kept alive by his wife, Karen M. Williams of Boston, MA, his 3 children, Stephen M. Williams & wife Cheri B. Williams, Stephanie M. Williams-Grant & husband Anthony V.
