Eustacio Jenkins Gondola was born in Culebra, Panama, on March 26, 1936, in the Santa Isabel region in the Province of Colon, Panama.
Eustacio was the seventh of 8 siblings (all deceased) of Henry Antonio Jenkins and Quinceana Gondola children. Eustacio was affectionately known as Tacho; he grew up with a love for the ocean and fishing and, along with his brothers and sisters, spent much of his youth developing a love of nature and a deep love of planting and working outdoors.
Eustacio was very close to his parents; when his father Henry would travel to San Blas, he would go alongside him, and he was able to learn many experiences from his father as they spent a lot of time together. As the youngest of his siblings, his older sisters and mother doted a lot of affection for him when he was growing up. Eustacio would often express fondness for his childhood and the two dogs he had when he was growing up.
One of Eustacio's most outstanding qualities was his desire to help anyone in need; on many occasions, he would pick up people in his pickup truck when they needed rides or bring them food from his Ranch (Finca). For years, he would use his jeep to take pastors and missionaries to difficult places in Colon, where people could receive Bible studies.
Eustacio was an outstanding son; when his mother, Quinceana, was older, he took care of her with loving care and affection, finally having her move in to better care for her. He was a father figure to many of his nephews and nieces who would visit his house daily, and several of them worked in the Business he and his brother Presbitero owned, Materiales Jenkins and Plywood Jenkins. He was tireless and always on time for work or the airport. To get to work from Colon to Panama, Eustacio would be up and moving every morning at 4 to be on time.
Eustacio met his beautiful wife, Julia Walker Samuels; they were married on December 29, 1968. Eustacio and Julia formed a loving home where they raised their children to honor God and love one another. Eustacio was an avid reader and enjoyed singing; often at home, you would hear him say "Ay hombe," meaning "Oh my". Or singing his favorite hymn "Puedo oir tu voz llamando", I can hear your voice calling me.
Eustacio was a sage gentleman and always impeccably dressed, providing wise counsel to others, a fantastic mediator, a protector, and a defender of his wife. Eustacio ensured that his house was cleaned on Friday in preparation for Sabbath, of excellent vocabulary, and would call out to you in his baritone voice. Whenever he spoke to you, he told you he loved and hugged you as you left his house. He enjoyed cooking his mother's arroz Culebrero, rice with coconut water, and rushed to the door to open it before you rang the bell.
Eustacio is survived by his wife, Julia Jenkins Walker, and his children Sarah, Gilberto Sr, Janet, Mariana, Dorian Sr, Antonio, Dexter, and Lanson. His eldest son, Eustacio II, predeceased him; he is survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved unconditionally and always prayed for their protection and God's guidance over them, as well as many nieces and nephews, and several dear friends, among them his best friend, who he called a brother Lucilo Gomez.
Eustacio "Tacho" Jenkins will be warmly remembered by all of us for the indelible impact he made on our lives.
