Eric Andrew Maynard
Somerville, MA
Eric was born on May 22, 1955 in Barbados, West Indies to Elmo C. Maynard and
the late Edgar A. Maynard, where he attended St. Stephen’s Primary School
before emigrating to the United States in 1966 with his family. He later attended
and graduated from Somerville High School in 1973.
After graduating from high school, Eric worked at Polaroid Corporation in
Cambridge, MA, for 27 years. He then worked for Palladion Services as a
Concierge before leaving in 2019 to support full-time care for his mother. He died
peacefully at home on March 29, 2021 while overseeing her care.
Eric was also very active and an essential member of St. James Episcopal Church in
Cambridge, MA where the family worshiped since their arrival to the United
States. Eric faithfully served at St. James for over 50 years. He was a lay
eucharistic minister, helped to train acolytes and assisted with many other tasks
that were required. He was a constant and reliable presence within the church.
Eric is preceded in death by his father Edgar. He is survived by his mother Elmo;
siblings Gregory (Annebel) of Bloomfield, CT; Cheryl Etoniru (Azuanuka) of
Bridgewater, MA; and Deborah Moore (Robert) of Seattle, WA; nephews St.Clair
Etoniru, Fleat James Easley and Joshua Robinson; nieces Alexandra Baker
(Matthew), Nneka Etoniru and Gabriella Etoniru; and grand-nieces and grand-
nephew; and extended family in Barbados, Canada and England.
In addition to his work at the church, his interests include photography and
working with computers.
Details for a memorial service are still in the planning process in part due to
COVID restrictions.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 7 th from 3pm to 5pm at A. J. Spears
Funeral Home.
Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery in West Bridgewater on Thursday, April 8 th at
11am. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed here.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Eric’s name to the Alzheimer’s
Association or St. James Episcopal Church, Cambridge MA.
