Mrs. Elsie Marie Greene

August 12, 1933 - February 18, 2024

Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on August 12, 1933 to the late Cyrus P. and Meturah E. (Richards) Atwell. Elsie was the youngest of four siblings. 

Elsie attended and graduated from Houghton Grammar School and Cambridge High and Latin School. She married the late Lloyd Arthur Greene in 1962, and from this union two children were born, Stephen E. Greene and Brian K. Greene.

Throughout her career, Elsie held several administrative positions, starting at Blue Cross Blue Shield early on and later at Draper Labs in Cambridge, where she dedicated many years before retiring. Post-retirement, Elsie remained active working part-time for a couple of days a week at the Bank of America. 

A devoted member of St. Bartholomew’s church, Elsie actively participated in the vestry, assisted with the church's financial affairs, and organized functions and bus trips for church members. One of Elsie's cherished activities at the church was serving ice cream, cake, and fruit punch during summer Sundays radiating kindness, joy and warmth to the Cambridge community, creating a welcoming and memorable experience for all.

Elsie M. Greene, sister of the late Enid C. Chase, Edith L. Atwell and Wilfred C. Atwell leaves to cherish her memory, son Stephen E. Greene and wife Donna M. Greene, son Brian K. Greene, daughter-in-law Denise S. Greene and son Lloyd A. Greene. She is also fondly remembered by her nephew Clifton N. Chase II, niece Cynthia J. Andrews, nephew Kenneth W. Atwell, grandchildren, Daryl C. Greene, Andrew N. Greene, Jade B. Greene, Tyler A. Greene, Janelle A. Greene, Deanna R. Greene, great-nephew Christopher J. Charles, great-grandchild Ariella S. Greene, godson Kevin N. Layne and a host of other relatives and friends.
