Elmo Maynard Obituary

MAYNARD, Elmo Carnetta (Worrell) of Somerville, MA:
Elmo Maynard died peacefully at home on April 6, 2021
at the age of 95. Elmo was born on February 8, 1926 in
Barbados, West Indies to Geraldine Gertrude “Grace”
Worrell (Carrington) and Oscar StClair Worrell. She
married Edgar A. Maynard and raised 3 of their 4 children
in the Black Rock, St. Michael parish of Barbados before
emigrating to the United States in 1966. After arriving in
the United States, Elmo gave birth to their 4 th child.
Elmo worked at Polaroid Corporation in Cambridge, MA, for several years making
parts for the Polaroid instant camera before retiring in 1986. She was a devoted
mother who loved handicrafts. Many of her crocheted masterpieces still grace her
family’s homes. She was also a member of St. James Episcopal Church in
Cambridge, MA where the family worshiped since their arrival in the United
States.
Elmo is predeceased by her parents Grace and StClair (as they were known to be
called), husband Edgar, brother Austin Lincoln, and son Eric Andrew. She is
survived by her children Gregory (Annebel) of Bloomfield, CT; Cheryl Etoniru
(Azuanuka) of Bridgewater, MA; and Deborah Moore (Robert) of Seattle, WA;
grandchildren St. Clair Etoniru, Alexandra Baker (Matthew), Nneka Etoniru,
Gabriella Etoniru, Fleat James Easley and Joshua Robinson; great-grandchildren
Malachi, Karmyn, MacKenzi, Kyelin and Jorah; siblings St. Clair Worrell (Patsy),
Joan Forde and Steven Reynold Worrell; cousins Sandra and Alison Matthew,
Colleen Brathwaite, Patricia Brathwaite-Harris, and many other relatives and
friends in Barbados, the United States and Canada.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Thursday April 15 th from 9am to
10am at A. J. Spears Funeral Home, 124 Western Ave, Cambridge, MA. The
viewing will be followed by a funeral service at 10am. All attendees are
respectfully asked to wear masks and maintain social distancing. Burial will be at
Pine Hill Cemetery in West Bridgewater at 12:30 pm. The service will be

Donations can be made in Elmo’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or to St.
James Episcopal Church, Cambridge MA.
