Dorothy Ricketts Obituary

DOROTHY M. RICKETTS was born on September 6, 1940, in Federalsburg, Maryland to Evelyn and Ellsworth Ricketts. She departed this life on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

Dorothy moved to Massachusetts in the early 1970s. She worked for many years for the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). After leaving UNCF, Dorothy returned to school and received her certificate in Early Childhood Education. She became the director of a daycare center that she ran for many years, working alongside her late sister, Earnestine Mason.

After retirement, Dorothy spent her time caring for close friends and family. She also enjoyed getting together with her neighbors and friends at weekly meetings, where they would discuss different issues and just have fun!

Dorothy was a loving and devoted mother to her children and a very loving grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful aunt, neighbor, and friend.

Dorothy leaves to mourn her passing, her children: Debra (Michael) Osgood, Verneice Ricketts and her partner Robert Kenney, and Omar (Joyce) Ricketts; her sister, Jean Bolden; and her niece, Karen Newkirk. She also leaves many grand-children and great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Evelyn and Ellsworth Ricketts; her son, Joseph Ricketts; her siblings: Earnestine Mason, Ann Cephas, Jeanette Thomas, James Ricketts, Verma Ricketts, and Erma Stanley; her nieces and nephews: Diane Ricketts, Sandra Thomas, Walter Bolden, Lynn Bolden, Leonard Robinson, and James Cephas.

Dorothy will always be remembered and very much missed.
