DeWayne A. Blake was born on September 9, 1959, in Wurzburg Germany. He was the second child born to John H. Blake and Marilyn Given Blake. He was a graduate of Savannah High School in Savannah Georgia.
DeWayne liked to be called by the name “Blake”, Papa, Daddy and by some, P-Funk. Blake was employed by Aramark Catering Service at Massachusetts Institute of Technology for many years while living in Cambridge, Mass before moving to Worcester County and accepting employment at Catania Oils in Ayer Ma, where he drove a forklift and worked in the warehouse loading trucks. Blake retired as a Lead Truck Driver employed by RAJBHOG Distributors, in Auburn, Ma whom he delivered groceries and supplies to restaurants and stores throughout the state of Massachusetts and other locations such as Maine and New Hampshire. Blake and his wife Sharlene married in 1991. They share two children, Sharmayne and Denzel, and granddaughter, Ruby.
Blake was a family man, a southern man, cut from a different cloth. He and his family enjoyed occasionally attending New Patriots Chrisitan Congregation Church in Fitchburg, Mass where he enjoyed the fellowship and for a short time enjoyed singing in the Men’s Choir. He was a hard worker, and his work ethic was one to be commended as he always provided for his family despite the constant barriers and stresses in his life. He loved cleaning his vehicles and was known for his skill in detailing and keeping his and other cars clean. Blake’s primary role in life was to take care of his family. He loved to be with his wife, Sharlene, whom he spent most of his time with when not working. He spent many years enjoying watching his daughter Sharmayne play basketball, his son Denzel play football, among other activities, but he specifically enjoyed driving and taking his family on road trips. Blake was always known as a “down to earth” dad, who never bit his tongue. He enjoyed watching sports and was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Blake loved old school Classic R&B music and kept a collection of music everywhere. Blake was respected and valued by his family and friends. He described himself as a “Army brat” because his father was a Military Drill sergeant, and he remembered many tales of traveling, living on Army Bases and settling in Georgia. Blake enjoyed telling stories of his father and grandfather, and the way they instilled morals and standards he lived by, which was proven in the way he lived and loved.
