DARLENE STROTHER was born on August 10, 1950, in Boston, Massachusetts. She was the youngest of two children born to Carrie Elizabeth (Perry) and Chester Garland Strother.
Darlene spent her younger years honing her artistic skills at the Elma Lewis School for Dance in Roxbury, Massachusetts. She excelled in singing, dancing, choreography, teaching, sewing and many hobbies. Ms. Darlene followed her lifelong dreams of writing a Christian novel and recording a Christian CD called “I Choose Life”. She always pursued new challenges and adventures by traveling to distant locations around the world such as Alaska, Israel, Africa, and Dubai.
Darlene shared her beautiful voice as a Praise and Worship Singer at Faith Fellowship Ministries as well as a few other churches. She remained devoted to the Lord as well as to her beloved mother, Carrie E. Strother, whom she lovingly cared for until she was called home to her Lord and Savior. On May 13, 2023, Darlene peacefully joined her mother after a long illness, while residing in a nursing home in Franklin, Massachusetts.
She was educated in the Boston Public School System, graduating from Jeremiah E. Burke High School. Darlene continued her education at UMass Boston where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree. She was most proud of her career as a Finance Advisor at MIT’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, from which she retired.
Darlene leaves behind her older brother, Chester (Chuckie) Garland Strother, Jr.; her niece and nephew, Belinda and Kyane Strother; her sister-in-law, Diana Strother, who also became her guardian; many great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and a godchild.
