Clara Elder Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Clara May Elder, age 88, who passed peacefully on February 11, 2026. Clara was born on April 19, 1937, in Buffalo, New York, to the late Wyatt Crayton and Marie Barber.

Clara was preceded in death by her older brother, William Crayton; her younger sister, Delpha Alford; her two younger brothers, Robert Crayton and David Crayton; her eldest son, Lorenzo Walters; her daughter, Evamarie Elder Louis; and her former spouse, Austin Oliver Elder Jr.

Throughout her life, Clara brought joy, laughter, strength, and an unforgettable presence to every room she entered.

Clara lived most of her life in Cambridge, Massachusetts, building a life full of love, family, and cherished memories. She was a woman of style, confidence, and unmistakable personality. Clara was a dedicated and hardworking woman who served as a bus monitor and later as a waitress at Candlelight Lounge. Clara was known for being funny, loud in the best way, and full of life, someone whose presence could be felt instantly. Whether she was dressed to the nines, wearing one of her many fashionable hats, or simply spending time with her loved ones, Clara carried herself with pride and elegance.

Clara loved cooking, and she was especially famous for her delicious homemade lemon loaf, which became a signature part of family gatherings and celebrations. She also enjoyed dressing up and making every moment feel special. She had a gift for making people feel welcomed, bringing family together, and creating new memories while reminiscing on old ones. Clara wasn’t just the life of the party—she was the heart of it.

Clara is survived by her siblings Charles Crayton, Joseph Crayton, and Geraldine Tasco; her loving children Joseph Elder and Vincent Elder; and her daughter-in-law Betty Elder. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Hakim, Terrell, KeiTushein, Chanel, Daniel, Michael Prince, Tayla, Michael Kyle, Malik, Joanna, Jasmine, and Chinara, along with many beloved great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Clara will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. She will be remembered not only for her bold personality and sharp sense of style, but for her warmth, her humor, and her ability to make everyone around her feel like family.
