Carlotta Thorne Obituary

OBITUARY

Carlotta E. Thorne

1929                                                   2023

Carlotta E. (Jones) Thorne was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts to the late Claudius S. and Carlotta E. (Worrell) Jones and was educated in the Cambridge School System.

She married Darnley Thorne and they were happily married for 64 years. From their union four children were born, Darnley H. Jr. ’Butch’, Steven L., Earl C., and Yvette C. Thorne.

She worked various jobs, but her last and most fulfilling job was with the Massachusetts Department of Education. She retired from the Department of Education in 1992, after 11 years of service, having earned certificates of Merit and Appreciation.

Carlotta attended St. Augustine’s African Orthodox Church in Cambridge for 80+ years. Upon St. Augustine’s closing she and her cousin Beryl (Gwen) began worshipping at West Medford Baptist Church. Pastor Paul and the members of WMBC were very kind to Carlotta during the pandemic, calling and sending her cards with well wishes.

She was a loving Mother, quiet, but fun and a joy to be around. Yvette always said that her friends invited the two of them places so that they could spend time with Mom.

She enjoyed traveling to see family. Her favorite trips were to Chicago to see Earl and Sheila and to Hoboken, NJ to see Patrice, Chris, and Reece. She also looked forward to the annual week in Newport, RI every summer with a side trip to see Sue and Dave in Wakefield, RI.

Carlotta liked to watch TV and kept up with the News, the Game shows, Law and Order shows, and Blue Blood. She didn’t watch sports on TV but could tell you about all the different teams and the players.

Most of all she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her face lit up whenever their names were mentioned, or when she looked at the daily photos and videos of her great grands.

She leaves to mourn her loss: devoted children Earl and Yvette, devoted grandchildren Dawne and Patrice (Chris), great grandchildren Reece and Marleigh, cousin Gwendolin Lee, nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.

Carlotta was preceded in death by her husband Darnley Thorne, her sons Darnley Jr, and Steven Thorne, her sister Inez Stanford and her brothers John Worrell and Livingston (Livvy), Clement (Clem), Egbert (Eggie) and Robert (Guy) Jones.

Perhaps they are not stars,

but rather openings in heaven

where the love of our lost ones

pours through and shines down upon us

to let us know that they are happy….
