Maria Perez

Today we honor the life of Maria Colombína Cabral Pérez. Maria, fondly called Mamá or Colombína to those close to her, was born on November 19, 1931, in El Tablaso, Dominican Republic, WI to the late Eloi Drito and Eloisa Cabral. Maria was the third youngest out of eight children, and is only survived by her sister Luz. On June 29, 1957 she married the late Leonidas Duarte Pérez and ultimately relocated to Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States in 1965. There she worked at various factories to help support her three children, José Miguel, Josefa Emilia, and Elizabeth, and build a life in the United States.

Maria was instrumental in helping her husband bring numerous family members to the United States. She was a mother and nurturing family member to many and opened her home and heart to all that cross her path. Always loyal and devoted, she was a foundation upon which her family could look to as an example of grace and duty.

Maria is survived by her three children: José, Josefa, and Elizabeth; her step-son: Alexis; five grandchildren: Ayana, LaToya, Nisa, Avianna, and Zian; two step-grandchildren; two great grandchildren: Amarii and Aria; a host of nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends and extended family members.

We know she is with the Lord and hearing,” Well done, good and faithful servant, enter into thy rest.” Her legacy of loyalty, family, and tradition will forever live on in the many lives she touched. Colombína will be deeply missed. We love you Mamá.
