June Lewis Obituary

June Barbara Lewis, a dedicated mother and grandmother, made her unexpected transition from this world peacefully on March 20, 2024 at the age of 84 surrounded by her loved ones. Born on June 11,1939 to Herbert E. Lee Jr. and Barbara Ruth Lee (Butler) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, June was the second born of five children.

June was a graduate of Cambridge Latin High School and attended business school. In her early years, June enjoyed working as an Administrative Assistant for several organizations and serving as an usher at Union Baptist Church. June also worked as a singer in a group that she created performing at many weddings, milestone celebrations and other events.

When June had her first child, she decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother. June excelled at propping up her children and supporting them through the many passions and difficulties of their lives. She made it her mission to improve the lives of her children and so many others. June was the heart of her family, always radiating warmth and kindness. June’s reverence for life and commitment to her children was a testament to her unwavering love. While June had seven children of her own, she was affectionately known as “Ma Lew” to her children’s friends, the neighborhood kids and was a well-loved member of the community in North Cambridge. Ma Lew was always sought out for her wisdom and advice to help others solve their problems and navigate the challenges of life. Her home was a gathering spot for all and she was a comforter, confidant, counselor, encourager and nurturer to all those that knew her.

June was passionate about gardening and when she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found in the front yard tending to her flowers while chatting it up with someone from the neighborhood. She also loved to dance, dance, dance. Once the music and rhythm hit her, she had a boundless energy which you could barely contain. She was a powerhouse in every way, overcoming many adversities and was a force to be reckoned with on the dance floor. June was a proud member of the Mother’s Tap Class at the Eleanor Boyle School of Dance who enjoyed performing and participating in dance competitions. She would tease her youngest daughter, Neena when the mother’s tap routine scored higher than Neena’s routines saying “We brought home the gold metal, where’s your gold?” June’s spunk even won her the “Dyno Mom” award at a competition recognizing her zeal for dance, infectious energy and dynamic personality on the stage. June had many friends and was adored, appreciated and held in high regard by so many.

June was predeceased by her brothers Irving Lee, Herbert Lee and Richard Lee. June is survived by her children, George Lewis, Deborah Lewis, Mark Lewis, Brian Lewis, Aaron Lewis, Stacey Lewis-Brown (Karriem Brown-deceased), Neena McConnico and son-in-law Terrance McConnico, her grandchildren, David “Tony” Lewis, Brendon Lewis, Bryce Lewis, Ajani McConnico, Jayden McConnico, step-grandchildren Alyson Laliberte and Erin Blouin, step great granddaughter, Kali Osias, her sister Delores B
